In addition to the 24-hour digital programmable clock-timer, this 12-cup machine features a swing-out, removable filter basket with easy-grip handle, a water window showing cup levels, and best of all, Sneak-A-Cup Interrupt Feature which allows you to grab a cup before the whole pot is brewed. Customer Review: Get real, people!
I do not purport to be a coffee aficionado, ok? I don't grind my own beans, I don't use agua dulce mountain spring water with a specific pH, and Kirkland Colombian in a can suits me just fine, thank you. That said, I do appreciate a reliable, simple-to-use coffee maker that's easy on the frilly bells/whistles and easy to clean (yeah, like that happens very often). Thank ____ (you fill in the blank) for inventing easily-disposed paper filters so that I am not tasked with a daily cleaning of a yuppie-gold filter -- what a PITA that must be, huh? -- and the coffee maker manufacturers that are common sense-oriented enough to use them. And did I mention value-priced?? Ok, cheap. So in my view, this little B&D fills all the bills and works quite well. I have almost never encountered a spillage problem (see below) and I can't imagine why anyone would say, "Ewww, it makes yucky tasting coffee". No, it doesn't! It tastes fine -- what's your problem?? It has a nice little clock/timer that I don't have to ask my child how to operate, the pour interrupt works well, the basket swivel hasn't fallen off so far, and yes, it IS easy to clean! What really grinds my cookies, though, is that I can't seem to find a replacement carafe (did I spell that right, Buffy?) or "pot" since my ham-handed attempt in proper "carafe replacement technique" resulted in a miss which resulted in a crack which now results in a leak. Durn. So I hope to buy yet another of these poor, maligned little machines cause I think they're just swell. If I can find one, that is. Hey, anybody want to sell me theirs??
Customer Review: B&D Versa Brew - Hooray Coffee!
Introduction: I have owned this coffee maker for about five years and use it several times a week. I felt I have a lot of experience with this product and should share my thoughts on the matter. Pros: Cheap Reliable Relatively good coffee, provided the unit is shut off immediately after brewing so that the coffee does not become acidic (I recommend a separate Thermos) Only has three pieces and they all are happy going into the dishwasher for clean-up No built in grinder (just one more thing to clean and prone to breakage) Clock and Start timer are nice Cons: Poor construction, a plasitc pin holding the basket in snapped off one day Carafe is poorly designed so that the user must pour out several cups of coffee before the carafe is full, otherwise, more coffee ends up on the counter than in the cup or thermos Uses annoying paper coffee filters - I wish it had a reuseable one The hash marks on the side of the carafe have long since washed off When brewing 12 cups, user must add more water to the device, since I have noticed almost a full cup of "evaporation", maybe the coffee elves ran off with it... Somewhat of an odd foot-print eats up more counter space than it should Summary: If you want a budget coffee maker that will be reliable, but of otherwise inferior quality, this is your item. After five years, it is finally starting to die from the hard water (vinegar helps quite a bit). Honestly though, you get what you pay for and I would recommend another brand than B&D, such as Krupps, etc. Do yourself a favor, spend an extra $50 on something that will last longer than other reviewers have noted and that has useful features instead of this bare-bones aggravation fest. Verdict: Reliable, but mediocre at best

Considered one of the most widely found kitchen utensils, the juicer has a conical ridged center that is pressed against a fruit or vegetable to extract its juices. Contemporary juicers are used because squeezing juices from any type of agricultural product can be a messy and difficult process. But as one would wear different types of clothes to attend different types of events, selecting the best juicer for a specific task has to be based on the particular needs it will serve.

Mainly used as part of the food preparation process, juicers help people squeeze the juice out from the soft-centered citrus fruits, like orange, lemon, lime or grapefruit. By cutting those in half and then pressing down their inner surface against the conical ridged center of a juicer, the necessary amount of juice is extracted to be consumed directly as a juice in a glass or to be part of the cooking endeavors of a person. Usually, the rest of the fruit its skin, pulp and seeds is discarded after the squeezing process is over and no more juice comes out.

When electronic devices were introduced in kitchens in order to assist the culinary efforts of men and women, electric juice extractors became part of peoples every practices. Used to prepare a fresh orange juice in the morning, or to get the juice of a lemon when preparing lemon-based recipes, mechanical juicers are part of someones daily food preparation tactics. Considered today extremely helpful, the two main types of juice extractors a centrifugal juicer that uses a blade and a sieve to separate juice and pulp or a masticating juicer that chews fruit to a pulp before squeezing the juice from it are available in several designs and styles. In fact, people can select from a variety of juicers, either because their color simply matches that of their kitchens counter tops, or because they are recommended by famous professional culinary chefs.

According to experts, the speed with which an electric juice operates plays a significant role in the quality of the outcome. Faster moving parts allow more air to integrate into the juice and thus, oxidize its nutrients, while slower juice processors can extract the juice out of fruit or vegetables without lowering its healthy elements quality.

Finally, many use their electronic blenders as juicers, because blenders can chop and mix raw fruits and vegetables together with a liquid, such as water, milk, or juice, creating a juice-like beverage.

Black & Decker (Us) Inc B&D Utc Coffee Maker 12 Cup

You sit in a restaurant and order a cup of coffee. The waiter brings you a cup of coffee that you really like. Great, you think. An hour later you order another cup. This time the coffee is bitter, sour and almost undrinkable. What happened here? Well, the pot with coffee has been sitting on a warming plate.

Leaving coffee on a warming plate is one of the worst things you can do to it. The intense heat burns the coffee and gradually destroys all the flavor. Yet, with glass carafe coffee makers there is no other way to keep the coffee hot. That is where thermal carafe coffee makers enter the scene.

The most obvious advantage of thermal carafe coffee makers is that they can keep your drink hot for hours without compromising the flavor. This is perfect for daily use in your office, home or anywhere you regularly like to enjoy sipping a cup of hot coffee without the tart, bitter taste of coffee that has been sitting on a warming plate all day.

There are more advantages to thermal coffee makers, however. The rugged construction of most thermal makers means years and years of use, and the brushed stainless steel exteriors are really stylish.

How do these marvelous things work to keep our coffee fresh and hot whenever we need it? Well, the thermal carafes are specially designed with double wall insulating systems. This insulation system keeps the heat in the carafe so your coffee stays hot for several hours. A great thing about it is that there is no warming plate - nothing to burn your coffee and destroy its delicate flavor.

Some of the thermal coffee makers on offer come with very handy additional features such as automatic shut off, built-in-grinder or many programmable settings. You can set your coffee maker to start brewing early in the morning before your alarm clock goes off and by the time you get up, a pot of hot and delicious coffee will be waiting for you. There is even a thermal coffee maker that comes with a steam wand - excellent for those coffee lovers who love milk based drinks.

Now let's have a look at who manufactures thermal carafe coffee makers. Capresso and Bunn are two brands that you should definitely consider. What sets these two apart is that their coffee makers actually use a proper brewing temperature (a thing that unfortunately cannot be said about a lot of other coffee makers). Zojirushi, Braun, Black & Decker and Cuisinart also offer thermal carafe coffee makers that have very good customer reviews.

If you have ever enjoyed taking a sauna bath at your local health club, gym or spa and would like a home sauna for your own private use, you should consider the many merits of a pre-cut sauna kit. Pre-cut sauna kits are perfect for people who appreciate the pleasures and benefits of sauna bathing but dont want to go to the trouble or expense of having a sauna professionally constructed and installed for them.

Even if you only have a few tools and dont think of yourself as a particularly gifted carpenter or handyman, you should have little if any difficulty building your own indoor or outdoor sauna using a pre-cut sauna kit. And, if you know of another sauna bath enthusiast who would be willing to assist you with the project, assembling your do-it-yourself or DIY sauna kit, as a pre-cut sauna kit is sometimes called, should be that much easier.

The first step in purchasing a pre-cut sauna kit is to decide whether you want an indoor sauna or an outdoor sauna. Depending on the space they have available on their property, some folks buy sauna kits to enhance their backyards. A backyard sauna can serve equally well as a private sanctuary and a gathering place for family members, friends or neighbors. No matter where its located, how a home sauna is utilized is ultimately up to its owner, but theres never just one way and one way only to enjoy a sauna.

Many indoor sauna kits have been assembled in basements, bathrooms, bedrooms and spare rooms. When space permits, indoor saunas can truly energize or revitalize the home life of an individual or family. More time in the sauna can mean less time sitting mindlessly in front of the computer or television or engaging in other unproductive behaviors. Using an indoor sauna is a great method of caring for your own health and well-being while relaxing in the familiar surroundings of home.

Once you decide whether you want a sauna kit for an indoor or outdoor sauna, then you must make other choices. Is your sauna going to be a traditional dry Finnish sauna or a far infrared sauna? Will your sauna heater be electric, gas, wood-fired, or infrared? How big do you want your sauna to be? What sauna features are most important to you?

To help you answer these and other questions, it is vital that you select a fully qualified sauna kit provider. Some sauna kit retailers are strictly dealers, while some are sauna manufacturers as well. If the quality of your pre-cut sauna kit materials is a priority to you, you would be wise to focus on sauna manufacturers, as they have greater control of the products they offer their customers.

Also, try to find a company that specializes in home saunas and sauna kits; a sauna specialist should be far more knowledgeable about pre-cut saunas than someone who sells saunas, hot tubs, swimming pools, gazebos, lawn furniture, and various other home improvement products. When buying a sauna or sauna kit, you deserve the security of knowing that the sauna supplier you have selected is a true sauna expert who can answer all your questions.

Always be attentive to the quality of the customer service you receive from your sauna supplier. How helpful, patient or pushy are the salespeople? How willing are they to assist you with your selection? What guarantees does the company provide? How clear and comprehensive are the instructions they include with their sauna kits? Do they have any customer testimonials on their website or in their brochures? What are their prices and policies for delivery?

Shopping for a pre-cut sauna kit can be challenging at times, but your efforts will be rewarded if you stay focused on making the right choices for your home, budget, lifestyle, and personal needs and preferences. If you shop for your do-it-yourself sauna kit responsibly, the joy and pride you feel in your new home sauna once it is assembled will be immensely satisfying.

Pertti Olavi Jalasjaa is the Finnish-born author of The Art of Sauna Building, an acclaimed reference book on sauna construction. He is also the general manager of Great Saunas, which has been manufacturing and selling high-quality saunas and sauna kits to sauna enthusiasts around the world since 1974.
